The Healthy Chef Vol. 1 Issue 1
The Healthy Chef
Hello and thank you for taking the time to read the first edition of The Healthy Chef. My name is Jack Mancino and I spent most of my life in the kitchen. The purpose of this newsletter is to show both BOH and FOH that at times, we all have feelings of anxiety, being overwhelmed, depressed or even find ourselves addicted to a substance. We are hoping that this newsletter can start the conversation of supporting each other in time of need. Most of us in the industry feel that it’s taboo to talk about mental health. In reality, most of us face these feelings have no one to talk too or are not willing to talk about it. This only causes us to spiral even deeper into our addiction or depressed state. Research has shown that isolation is a major cause of addiction. With Social Media being the way we connect with each other now days, social interaction is on the decline. That’s why it’s more important than ever that you reach out to friends, family, co-workers and/or a manager. Now, I’m sure you’re thinking the same thing I did in the past. “Jack, are you crazy?!?” But the truth is, no one knew when I was depressed because I was great at hiding it. Even days that I wasn’t, I had an excuse (I don’t feel well, I didn’t sleep well, I forgot to eat, etc.) Help only comes when you are willing to ask for it. I know the fear of being worried that others will judge you or perceive you as weak, so if you don’t feel comfortable reaching out to your group of people, reach out to me at Jmancino11@gmail.com or 707-400-0647. I’m always willing to talk.
